Basic Rhythm Studies for Multiple Instruments

Updated: Oct 5, 2020

Hey there folks, I've been noticing some curiosities regarding how rhythms affect chords. Below are two examples of how you can take three simple chords and have very different expressions of them because of rhythmic variations.

Make sure you are comfortable with either the chords listed or the chords you're wanting to experiment with. Then take your time counting through the quarter notes and eighth notes in each of the 10 exercises.

Once we move onto the second sheet, we'll be witnessing the differences of holding a note for longer via the tie, in comparison to resting. They are similar because we don't articulate the beat in both circumstances, but one is prolonged while the other is silent.

Enjoy! Please feel free to reach out with questions.
